MusclePharm Combat Protein Powder Review

musclepharm

Musclepharm has been in the protein game for a long time and they have released a few versions of their infamous Combat line of whey protein powder. These days it comes in 5 flavors: cookies and cream, banana cream, chocolate milk, triple berry and vanilla.

Musclepharm has gone after the “clean protein” market and advertises this line as “banned-substance tested” which is a nice to know more than anything really. But if you do check the ingredients, you are getting a solid package. Each flavor contains 5 protein sources with a combination of fast and slow digesting proteins to make sure your body gets as much of it as it can. You’re also only getting 1.5 grams of fat with each serving and just 2 grams of sugar.

So what’s the problem? Well, the taste is a little lack luster, on all the flavours. This might be a personal choice so it’s best to try for yourself. Interestingly enough, this is one of the only protein powders that contains 3 different gums; cellulose gum, guar gum and xanthan gum. These are used as stabilizers and thickeners, but usually digestive enzymes can help with this (which this powder actually lacks).

But honestly, this isn’t really that much of a negative. While this protein powder didn’t rock my taste buds it doesn’t mean it’s not for you. The price point is actually incredible for the quality of product you are getting, so you should at the very least give it a try. You’re getting some rock solid calories for the price point of “cheap powders”.

In conclusion, most of the flavors lack on taste but they make up for with excellent nutritional stats and a great price!
